Lee Corso picks Vanderbilt to upset Virginia Tech on College GameDay
By Scott Roche
The Virginia Tech football team opens their season at Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon as a 13.5-point favorite over the Commodores. The Hokies have been nearly a two-touchdown favorite since the line came out months ago and it's stayed pretty steady leading into kickoff.
Saturday morning, ESPN College GameDay, which is at College Station, Texas for the much-hyped non-conference battle between No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 20 Texas A&M later that night, had their panel make their weekly SuperDog picks, and two of the panel members like Vanderbilt to cover against the Hokies.
Lee Corso, who did not travel to Ireland last weekend with the rest of the crew for Week 0 when Florida State and Georgia Tech opened the college football season with the Yellow Jackets pulling off a 24-21 upset, likes the Commodores to cover, as did Kirk Herbstreit. Earlier in the show, it was announced that Vanderbilt will start New Mexico State transfer Diego Pavia under center in what is a not-too-surprising move if we're being honest.
There is a lot of hype around Virginia Tech beginning the season and doing so on the road against an SEC opponent that is picked to finish at the bottom of the tough conference standings, despite getting a vote in the preseason to win the SEC. Ah yes, then we got to game-pick winners.
Later in the show when it came to game picks, it was a near sweep across the panel picking Virginia Tech to win the game outright, except for one. Corso is doubling down on his SuperDog pick and took Vanderbilt to win the game outright. Despite taking Vandy to cover in his SuperDog pick, Herstreit took the Hokies to win the game along with Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, and guest picker Johnny Manziel.
