Any hopes that the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team had of making the 2024 NCAA Tournament were dashed by Florida State in the second round of the ACC Tournament Wednesday with an 86-76 loss at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The loss leaves the Hokies at 18-14 and likely on a path to a second consecutive NIT berth.

Following Virginia Tech’s loss to Florida State Wednesday, athletic director Whit Babcock said that the school would accept an invite and that they even put in a request to host. Of course, that would depend on whether or not the Virginia Tech women end up hosting the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament next weekend in Blacksburg. They should, but you never know.
Last season, the Hokies played on the road in the first round of the NIT, losing at Cincinnati, 81-72. Mike Young said in his postgame press conference Wednesday that he would like to continue to coach this group in the NIT and if they get in, given their track record of winning games away from Blacksburg, hosting would be a big plus for them. Time will tell.
