Saturday, Georgia Tech sent big shock waves not only through college football but also the ACC with their upset of No. 10 Florida State in Dublin, Ireland. Looking to make a statement following a frustrating end to the 2023 campaign, the Seminoles set themselves up for a long 2024 season.

The Yellow Jackets completed the upset with a field goal as time expired and also put the ACC on notice that they're going to be a problem in 2024. However, the FSU loss opens the door wide open for the rest of the ACC to have new hope to win the conference. Are the Seminoles done? No, but they made their path a lot more difficult and gave some teams more hope than they had when they woke up Saturday morning.

Brad Crawford of 247Sports Sunday laid out a path for two teams who could benefit from Florida State's loss and one of those teams just happens to be Virginia Tech.

Brad Crawford says FSU's loss open things up for Virginia Tech and NC State

Crawford painted a scenario where things really opened up for Virginia Tech and North Carolina State Saturday afternoon with the first result of the 2024 college football season. He noted that even if Florida State wins out in the ACC and is 7-1, Virginia Tech and NC State, neither of who play the Seminoles, could each finish 7-1 and if both beat Georgia Tech, then they would have the tiebreaker for Mike Norvell's team.

That's an interesting take as the Hokies do face a doable ACC schedule, albeit harder after yesterday's result, but they get Miami on the road and Clemson at home, as well as Georgia Tech. Yes, a trip to Syracuse is not going to be easy in early November, but Crawford's path he painted does paint a good picture for Brent Pry and his team heading into Week 1. Now it's all about taking care of business on the field.
