The Hurricanes enter the season with a lot of high hopes but face two non-conference games that are sneaky tough. The first one at Florida they should be up for, but their last one on Sept. 21 at South Florida is going to be tough with Virginia Tech looming six days later in their ACC opener. The Bulls are tough at home.

9. North Carolina State

The Wolfpack play Tennessee and Clemson in two of their first four games, but a week after playing at the Tigers, NC State welcomes Northern Illinois to Raleigh and they are one of the better MAC teams that causes problems for their opponents.

The Tar Heels are another team that opens with their first four non-conference games, but their final one ahead of their ACC opener against Duke vs. James Madison is a classic trap game. Bob Chesney takes over after a successful stint at Holy Cross and will have them ready to play.

11. Pittsburgh

The Panthers open the season against Kent State at home, then go to Cincinnati to play the Bearcats before their battle against West Virginia at home. Looking ahead to the Mountaineers before playing Cincinnati would not be good for Pittsburgh.

12. SMU

One game that the Mustangs have circled on their schedule is on Nov. 16 when they host Boston College after the Eagles upset them in the Fenway Bowl last December. The week before BC visits, SMU hosts Pittsburgh, who could be in a position to play spoiler in November.
