Best & Worst Virginia Tech football betting lines for 2024
By Scott Roche
We are just over two weeks away from the Virginia Tech football team kicking off their 2024 season at Vanderbilt. There is a lot to like about the Hokies this season with a lot of players back on both sides of the ball along with some key transfers.
Virginia Tech was not ranked in either the Preseason Coaches Poll or the Associated Press Top 25, but they were just on the outside looking in. That's just fine as even though they won't sneak up on people, let there be some doubt about them ahead of the season.
As we get closer and closer to the season beginning, let's take a look at some of the betting lines from DraftKings for the Hokies and decide whether it's good or bad value.
Virginia Tech to make the ACC Championship Game: +450
This is an interesting one, to say the least. The ACC schedule in 2024 is not bad for the Hokies as their two biggest games on paper are at Miami on Sept. 27 and at home against Clemson on Nov. 9. Now that doesn't mean that there aren't other obstacles in their way as road games at Syracuse and Duke will be tough, as will a home game against Georgia Tech. At least a 7-1 record is what it is going to be what it takes to be in Charlotte on the first Saturday in December and that would mean at least splitting their two games with the Hurricanes and Tigers. Remember last month when head coach Brent Pry said he would be "disappointed" if his team was not playing in this game this season?
Value: Good
Virginia Tech to win the ACC Championship Game: +1000
Is this the season that the Hokies return to the glory days and win the Conference Championship Game? Unlikely, but hey, we can dream, right? There are a lot of good teams in the ACC this season and whoever wins it, will earn it.
Value: Bad
Virginia Tech to make the College Football Playoff: +800
Getting into the CFP will take an ACC Championship or an 11-1 regular season and snag an at-large bid as it is highly unlikely that they can go 10-2 and get a berth with out a Conference Championship like Ohio State or Georgia would be able to do.
Value: Bad
Virginia Tech to win 12-team College Football Playoff: +25000
Are the Hokies going to win the 12-team CFP field? Probably not, but hey, anything is possible. You can dream.
Value: Bad
Virginia Tech regular season wins Over 8.5
When this line first came out months ago, it was 7.5 which was not a good value, but a great value. Then it ticked up to 8.5 and with the schedule that Virginia Tech is facing with their four non-conference games and eight ACC games, it makes you think. At least nine wins is what it's going to take to cash in on the prop if you take the over and that still seems doable.
