Action Network's Brett McMurphy is high on Virginia Tech in 2024
By Scott Roche
Earlier this week, the Preseason college football coaches poll was released and Virginia Tech was noticeably snubbed not making the Top 25. The Hokies were the third team receiving votes at No. 28, which seems low.
Around that same time, Action Network's Brett McMurphy released his Top 25 poll and he ranked the Hokies inside the Top 25 and he is one of the multiple reporters who are high on Virginia Tech and Brent Pry going into 2024. Let's take a look at his Top 25.
- 1. Oregon
- 2. Georgia
- 3. Ohio State
- 4. Texas
- 5. Alabama
- 6. Ole Miss
- 7. Penn State
- 8. Miami
- 9. Notre Dame
- 10. Utah
- 11. Kansas State
- 12. Oklahoma State
- 13. Clemson
- 14. Missouri
- 15. Florida State
- 16. Oklahoma
- 17. Michigan
- 18. Tennessee
- 19. Iowa
- 20. LSU
- 21. Texas A&M
- 22. USC
- 23. Iowa State
- 24. Virginia Tech
- 25. Kansas
Ok, so some thoughts on McMurphy's Top 25. He has Miami as the only ACC team inside his Top 10 and he has Clemson and Florida State inside his Top 15 with Virginia Tech the next ACC team at No. 24.
About the Hokies, McMurphy is high on them because of the retainment that Virginia Tech had and he is high on quarterback Kyron Drones, and rightfully so. He also pointed to the ACC schedule that Virginia Tech plays which includes six teams that were picked to finish in the bottom half and no Florida State. He also failed to mention no Louisville and North Carolina State also on the schedule who also beat the Hokies last season and two teams McMurphy had in his next 15 teams out of the poll.
Virginia Tech being snubbed in the coaches poll was a bit of a surprise, but for the most part, the Hokies will climb in all the rankings this season as long as they take care of business on their schedule.
