ACC Football Power Rankings: Syracuse, Boston College & California surge up rankings
By Scott Roche
If there is one thing that we've learned through Week 0, Week 1 and Week 2 is to expect the unexpected in the ACC in 2024. Yes, I know, it's kind of like Big Brother a little bit. You never know what's going to happen week to week.
That was the case for Week 2 where some results were surprising and some were disappointing, depending on which fanbase you root for. The one thing that has been consistent is that Miami has shown that they're the best team in the ACC for now and until someone can knock them off. They'll have their roadblocks, but how will they handle them?
With that said and another week down, it's time for the latest ACC Football Power Rankings.
ACC Football Power Rankings after Week 2
Rank | Team | Record | Last Week |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Miami | 2-0 | 1 |
2. | Louisville | 2-0 | 4 |
3. | Boston College | 2-0 | 12 |
4. | North Carolina | 2-0 | 6 |
5. | California | 2-0 | 13 |
6. | Syracuse | 2-0 | 10 |
7. | Clemson | 1-1 | 7 |
8. | Pittsburgh | 2-0 | 9 |
9. | Duke | 2-0 | 14 |
10. | Georgia Tech | 2-1 | 3 |
11. | NC State | 1-1 | 2 |
12. | Virginia Tech | 1-1 | 11 |
13. | SMU | 2-1 | 8 |
14. | Virginia | 2-0 | 16 |
15. | Florida State | 0-2 | 5 |
16. | Stanford | 1-1 | 17 |
17. | Wake Forest | 1-1 | 15 |
As you can see, there was a big shakeup throughout the rankings. Boston College upset Florida State on the road, then ripped Duquesne five days later without a letdown and jumped up to No. 3. California upset Auburn on the road and they are now No. 5 after an impressive showing. Syracuse jumps to No. 6 after taking down Georgia Tech, which must have FSU fans fuming even more.
Clemson had the perfect response at home against Appalachian State and Pittsburgh had a crazy rally to beat Cincinnati on the road. NC State got a wakeup call against Tennessee while SMU didn't look great at home Friday night against BYU, losing by three points. Virginia rallied in the fourth quarter on the road at Wake Forest and Florida State had a bye week and some soul-searching to do after losing to Boston College at home and a tough Memphis team awaiting them next weekend. As far as the Hokies go, a win is a win.
