2024 Week 5 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction
By Scott Roche
College football was being college football this past weekend. This is why we love the sport. Some of the top teams in last week's 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction were beaten, while one SEC team was stunned at home in a result not many people saw coming.
Georgia was beaten by Alabama on the road in a great game, 41-34, that saw two of the top teams in the country go toe to toe. Miami survived Virginia Tech Friday night at home with a controversial ending of an overturned touchdown by replay.
In an upset that not many people, if any, saw coming, Kentucky scored late to beat Ole Miss on the road after connecting on a fourth down in their territory. Penn State won at home over Illinois in a Big Ten battle, while Ohio State rolled over Michigan State. Don't look now, but Clemson seems to have turned things around after its loss to Georgia and is playing good football.
Boise State beat Washington State, but UNLV looks like a real threat to the Broncos in the Mountain West. They have a shot to post a resume-building win at home against Syracuse this Friday night. The Orange are 3-1 under first-year coach Fran Brown and are a dangerous team.
It's hard to believe that we are five weeks through the 2024 college football season and here are the latest 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction.

Gone this week are Utah, after losing at Arizona Saturday night, 23-10, and Ole Miss, which was beaten at home by Kentucky. Coming in place of Utah is BYU, which looks very dangerous in the Big 12, while Missouri is the latest SEC team to join. Yes, the Tigers have had some close calls this season at home against Boston College and Vanderbilt, but it's college football. Survive and move on to next week.
This upcoming week's results will likely cause more movement and shakeups, but UNLV out of the Mountain West will have a lot of eyes on them Friday against Syracuse.
