2024 Week 0 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction
By Scott Roche
This season the new 12-team College Football Playoff begins and leave it to college football to already throw the preseason predictions into chaos. You can thank Georgia Tech for that in the very first game of the season Saturday afternoon.
Florida State, which was in most preseason projections, ours too, suffered a pretty big upset at the hands of Georgia Tech, 24-21, in Ireland when the Yellow Jackets nailed a game-winning field goal as time expired. Now with just one team playing this past weekend, there is going to be some adjusting to our predictions.
As we enter Week 1 for this week, games will start on Thursday and continue on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. It's a college football fan's dream weekend. Now, does Florida State's loss completely knock them out of any chances of getting in? No, not with the expanded CFP field. It just makes it that much harder, but they can rebound and still win the ACC Championship. It's going to be harder, but doable.
With that said, here is the latest 2024 12-team College Football Playoff predictions following Week 0 as we enter the first full weekend of the season.
Rank | Team | How Their Here | Last Week |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Georgia | SEC Champion | 1 |
2. | Ohio State | Big Ten Champion | 2 |
3. | Utah | Big 12 Champion | 6 |
4. | Miami | ACC Champion | NR |
5. | Oregon | At-Large | 5 |
6. | Texas | At-Large | 3 |
7. | Notre Dame | At-Large | 7 |
8. | Ole Miss | At-Large | 8 |
9. | Alabama | At-Large | 9 |
10. | Michigan | At-Large | 10 |
11. | Penn State | At-Large | 11 |
12. | Boise State | MW Champion | 12 |
Georgia gets a really tough test in Week 1 when they play Clemson in Atlanta and Miami, which replaces Florida State as the ACC champion faces a tougher game than many people think in the Swamp at Florida. Notre Dame will travel to Texas A&M in Mike Elko's first game as head coach of the Aggies.
As we get going with a full schedule each week, these predictions will likely change on a week-to-week basis throughout the season. College football is so back.
