Let's face it, if you watch or listen to the Paul Finebaum show, you know one thing: he's never afraid to take a shot at anyone at any time. He throws a lot of shade at the ACC, especially Florida State, after the College Football Playoff snub two years ago, to their collapse last season.
However, Finebaum seems to have a pulse on the state of college football, and he has seen the rise and fall of the Virginia Tech program. One of the top programs in the country under Frank Beamer, there has been a decline under Justin Fuente and Brent Pry. However, one year after a disappointing 2024 season that began with so much hype, Finebaum is hoping that Pry can turn things around sooner rather than later in Blacksburg and have them back on the map in college football.
Paul Finebaum wants to see Virginia Tech return as a college football power
When Virginia Tech is contending for championships in college football, it's great for the sport. Finebaum knows that, and on a recent show, he hopes that the program is working its way back to relevance.
"I hope they're back," said Finebaum. "I've always been a big fan of Virginia Tech."
However, you have to remember that this is the same analyst who said that Fuente was going to change the culture at Virginia Tech when he was hired.
Regardless, we are with Finebaum in his take on the Hokies becoming a power again in college football. If they are going to do it under Pry, then they'll need to fix a lot of issues on the fly, from winning one-score games to exceeding expectations. The analytics think that they can take a step this fall.
The schedule is tough, but a very doable one with no Clemson or SMU, and aside from Georgia Tech on the road, they get Miami and Louisville at Lane Stadium. Things start with South Carolina next weekend in Atlanta, and a win there can set the tone for the season and possibly lead to Finebaum's wish sooner rather than later. We're hoping with you, Paul.
