When former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos hit the transfer portal, it came as little surprise that he would end up at Florida State under Mike Norvell. He is the dual-threat QB that the Seminoles' coach desires.
At BC, Castellanos put up mixed results before he was benched late last fall, which ended with him leaving the team before the season was over. First-year head coach Bill O'Brien decided to replace him with Grayson James. Recruited by former Eagles coach Jeff Hafley, who left Chestnut Hill to join the Green Bay Packers as their defensive coordinator a year and a half ago, Castellanos didn't seem to see eye-to-eye with his new coach.
On Monday, Castellanos had some eye-opening quotes to Pete Nakos from On3 Sports that may have been better off not said, but it seems that he didn't hold back with Nakos about his time at BC and his future with FSU.
Former BC QB Thomas Castellanos continues to post bulletin board material
As he highlighted in a recent article, Castellanos struggled the last two seasons against Virginia Tech, which needed both wins in 2023 and 2024 against the Eagles just to become bowl-eligible. However, it appears that Castellanos struggled against a lot of the conference, as evident by his stats.

He was 4-8 in ACC games (20 TD - 13 INT)
BC's Castellanos-led offense ranked 60th of 68 Power 4 in my opponent-adjusted metrics. Without him, QB Grayson James improved that to 35th https://t.co/LJ4aWAh75X
His latest quote was a beauty, "I feel like I tore the ACC up by my damn self for the last two years, and now I’m with a squad,'' he told Nakos. " I hope people don’t think that Florida State is going to be the same team it was last year because we have weapons. People can’t just sit back in zone coverage and watch me.”
Whoever is advising Castellanos, if anyone even is, might want to have a talk with him. The numbers don't lie, 4-8 in ACC games with a 20-13 touchdown to interception ratio. Again, in the ACC. What would his numbers have looked like in the SEC or Big Ten? Heck, what would they have looked like in the Big 12?
This season Virginia Tech gets Florida State on the road and with a different roster in terms of talent in Tallahassee than he had with Boston College, Castellanos may very well get over the hump against the Hokies, but some of these quotes will come back and burn him if he doesn't perform better than he did with the Eagles. He's attracting a lot of eyes on him for the 2025 campaign.
