The Dead Period is creeping up in college football, and visits are coming to an end this cycle. Despite the Dead Period, there are going to be some commitment announcements coming with members of the Class of 2027 when it comes to getting that out of the way before their senior season starts.
Virginia Tech and James Franklin have been hitting it big in terms of recruiting in Franklin's first season in Blacksburg, which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Norvell and FSU landed a commitment from three-star 2027 edge Jaxon Holly earlier this month. That came on the heels of Heupel getting a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Q'Mari Hudson from Virginia. It appeared the Franklin and Virginia Tech were in the driver's seat for him, but the Vols swooped and plucked right out from under Franklin and the Hokies.
On Monday, three-star linebacker CJ Ohunabunwa from Norcross, Georgia, made his commitment, and it came down to four schools: Virginia Tech, Florida State, Louisville, and Kansas. He visited FSU this past weekend ahead of the announcement. Was Norvell going to hand the Hokies another recruiting blow?

Ohunabunwa ended up picking the Seminoles. This is a huge blow to the Hokies, as currently, Franklin and defensive coordinator Brent Pry have a huge need at linebacker in this class. This is another recruiting setback for Franklin and, more so, Pry. Virginia Tech still has a hole at linebacker and a second loss to Norvell in a week. Onto the next for Franklin, Pry, and Virginia Tech, with more commitments coming up.
