When Virginia Tech fired football coach Brent Pry on Sunday, the names for his replacement began flowing out on social media. Everybody has their own list and when the dust settles, who knows just who the school ends up hiring as Pry's replacement.

There are a lot of interesting names out there, but one that seems to keep coming up is former Virginia Tech legend Michael Vick. Last December, he was hired as the head coach at Norfolk State and so far this year in his first campaign at the helm, he's 1-2. Until a new coach is hired, his name is going to be floated about in the rumor mill and Pete Nakos of On3 dropped what could be considered a rather big one.

When Vick was hired at Norfolk State, some people thought this was his first stop on his way to Blacksburg someday to lead the program he starred at. There was a lot going on with Pry last December coming off a disappointing 6-6 season and the hiring of Vick may have spelled bad news for Pry. Pete Nakos of On3 hinted that it may have been the case.

He reported that sources told him that some Virginia Tech boosters pushed Vick to get coaching experience and that it wouldn't surprise anyone if Vick a serious name in future searches at Virginia Tech. Well, nine months later, here we are, a coaching search at Virginia Tech.

Vick doesn't have the head coaching experience that a lot of fans would like to see the next hire at Virginia Tech have and it is too early in his career as a head coach to make the move from Norfolk to Blacksburg, but anything is possible. This is vital moment for the program and this hire needs to be the correct one. There is likely more shuffling coming from inside the athletic department and that may play a big role in the next hiring, but Nakos has opened the door for Vick's name to be a serious one during the search.
