The Virginia Tech football team will look to snap a two-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium when they host Georgia Tech. Leading into the game, there was talk about the injuries that Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key has been dealing with, mainly with his running backs.
A couple of hours before kickoff, the latest ACC injury report was dropped, and aside from some names that have been on the list all week leading into the game, there was one name that popped up for the Hokies on the defensive side of the ball that would be a tough loss if it were to become reality at kickoff.
Virginia Tech linebacker Kaleb Spencer listed as a game-time decision against Georgia Tech
There were some key players retained on both sides of the ball following the coaching change last season for Virginia Tech, and on the defensive side, linebacker Kaleb Spencer was retained and has turned into a key player on Brent Pry's defense. However, on the pregame injury report, Spencer was listed as a game-time decision, per Andy Bitter of Tech Sideline.
This season, Spencer has recorded 27 tackles, two forced fumbles, and three sacks for the Hokies. It should be noted that, per the Sons of Saturday Virginia Tech, Spencer is listed as a starter alongside Noah Chambers and Keon Wylie. If Spencer can't go, then expect to see Sherrod Covil step up in his place.
After two heartbreaking losses to Pittsburgh and California, Virginia Tech needs a win in a bad way on Saturday against Georgia Tech. After this home game, the Hokies have road games coming up at Clemson next weekend and then at SMU in early November, following a bye week on Halloween Weekend.
Virginia Tech is a touchdown-plus favorite going into the game, and I know, where we have seen this before this season. Yes, the last two weeks against Pitt and Cal. Not having Spencer would be a big setback for Pry and Virginia Tech.
