When it comes to recruiting in the Class of 2027, so far, James Franklin and Virginia Tech have one commitment from defensive lineman Alexander Taylor. The three-star committed to the Hokies a couple of weeks ago.
That was a nice first step in the class for Franklin and defensive line coach Sean Spencer. Let's not forget new defensive coordinator Brent Pry. A Crystal Ball prediction was recently logged for the Hokies for cornerback Tristin Hughes from Ohio. He was supposed to make his commitment on Thursday, but he pushed that off while taking a visit to Kentucky.
Building the future through the trenches on both sides of the ball has been a priority of Franklin since he was hired in November in Blacksburg. He quickly flipped several Penn State commits to Virginia Tech in the Class of 2026. On Friday, he picked up his second commitment in the Class of 2027, and it was also along the defensive line for Spencer and Pry.
Virginia Tech picks up commitment from DL Brock Frisby
Three-star defensive lineman Brock Frisby committed to Virginia Tech, picking the Hokies over Syracuse, West Virginia, Nebraska, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Kentucky, and Wake Forest. This is a nice recruiting win for Franklin over some Big Ten, ACC, and Big 12 programs.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Severn, Maryland native stars at Archbishop Spaulding High School, which has turned out some very good college players in recent years. This is yet another DMV win for Franklin in recruiting, an area he dominated when he was at Penn State.
Virginia Tech's roster building in recruiting with high school recruits is going to look different under Franklin. Frisby is a three-star, but the Hokies are going to be in on more four and maybe even some five-star recruits than fans have been used to in recent seasons.
