Virginia Tech football recently got some very promising predictions when it comes to a sought-after Class of 2027 recruit. The Hokeis were predicted to land one of the top safeties in the class on Thursday when he was scheduled to make his decision on his 17th birthday.

Tristin Hughes of Ohio was reportedly to make his decision between Virginia Tech, Purdue, Penn State, and Kentucky. The Hokeis are seen as the leader for him, and the predictions say that. However, right before he was expected to announce his decision, he had put it off.

Virginia Tech Class of 2027 target pushes off commitment date

Hughes is pushing back his commitment date after talking with his family, and now, instead, will take a visit to Kentucky on Thursday instead of committing. This is something that is worth keeping an eye on, as James Franklin and his staff were in the lead to land him, but it appears that the Wildcats are going to make a push.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Rocky River (Ohio) High talented defensive back who registered over 60 tackles last fall with three interceptions and three forced fumbles. He has an official visit scheduled for Virginia Tech in late May, with visits also scheduled for Kentucky and Purdue in June.

There are a couple of ways to look at this. Clearly, Kentucky is making a big push for him, and the visit on Thursday could be telling. He has visits set up to schools during the height of the recruiting period before the summer. If he decides very shortly to make his commitment after visiting Kentucky, then that could spell some bad news for Franklin and Virginia Tech.

Currently, the Hokies have one commitment in the Class of 2027, defensive lineman Alexander Taylor, who committed last month to the Hokies.
