After months and weeks of speculation of where he will and where he won't, four-star Class of 2027 quarterback Peter Bourque of Massachusetts and Tabor Academy, made his commitment five months after de-committing from Michigan after Sherrone Moore was fired in December.
When Bourque de-committed from the Wolverines, he again drew interest from some of the top programs. In the end, it came down to Penn State, Georgia, and Virginia Tech. Over the last month, his recruitment has taken some wild turns with ups and downs, to say the least. In the end, he committed to Virginia Tech.

Class of 2027 4-star QB Peter Bourque commits to Virginia Tech
Penn State was once thought to be the leader in the clubhouse under first-year coach Matt Campbell; however, the Nittany Lions grew more interested in another Class of 2027 signal caller, Will Wood, out of Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Mass. Then a prediction came in for Bourque from a Penn State insider, but he backtracked on that decision. Now it came down to Georgia and Virginia Tech, Kirby Smart vs. James Franklin for Bourque, with the Nittany Lions focusing on Wood.
Bourque is coming off a terrific junior season that saw him throw for 2,241 yards and 18 touchdowns. He gashed defenses for another 688 rushing yards and 15 more touchdowns. He earned Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year honors as a junior. He is the second Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year to commit to the Hokies after former Springfield Central High School star Pop Watson committed to former head coach Brent Pry. He has since transferred back to Massachusetts and will play for UMass in 2026.
Franklin has 12 commits in the Class of 2027, and Bourque is the first quarterback to have committed to him since he arrived in Blacksburg. He began on a recruiting heater on defense, then last month, he went on a heater on the offensive side of the ball, with running backs, wide receivers, and a tight end committing to Virginia Tech. According to Rivals, Bourque is the seventh-ranked quarterback in his class and the 82nd-ranked prospect overall.
So Penn State fans on social media will tell you that Bourque wasn't the quarterback they wanted. Funny how the tune changed after Penn State was slipping in his recruitment. Now they're all in on Wood. Nittany Lions fans can;t have it both ways, can't beat Franklin in recruiting battle and stuff him into a locker on social media, then backtrack and lose a recruitment to him and say you didn't want him. James Franklin continues to live rent free in Penn State fans heads. He always will.
