When James Franklin met with the media earlier this week, the first-year head coach made it a point to make sure to let everyone know that there were going to be some changes with the annual spring game.
There were a handful of things that Franklin was doing differently, including grabbing the microphone and addressing the crowd at the end of the first quarter. When he did, he mentioned that the Hokies "We're going to shock the world together,'' meaning the fans as well.
That is a quote that stuck out and will be heard by a lot of Virginia Tech fans. After the spring game, Franklin explained that comment.

Franklin was asked about the comment and went into a more detailed explanation of what he meant by that comment.
"There's an excitement right now, and we want to keep that excitement going. We have been fortunate to be a part of two turnarounds in two different conferences, and we plan on doing that again, and this place knows what it looks like. They've done it before. That's what this whole re-establishment is about,'' said Franklin.
He's not wrong; there is a ton of excitement. Would it surprise anyone if Franklin turned the program around quickly? No, but it would be surprising if he did in his first season. Anything is possible.
I'm sure that comment will be broken down by Penn State fans, but Virginia Tech fans have been waiting to have a feeling like this around the program for a long time. When the school fired Brent Pry as the head coach in September, little did they know they could knock the new hire out of the park like they did when Franklin fell into their lap. One thing is for sure: there is a lot of excitement, and fans can't wait for the fall to get here.
