Winners of two straight, the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team will get another test early in the 2024-25 season on Tuesday night at Cassell Coliseum. Wins over UNC Wilmington, UNC Asheville, and Coppin State along with a loss to Iowa have the Hokies at 3-1. Now they get their next biggest test hosting Rutgers.
The schedule is going to pick up for first-year coach Megan Duffy the deeper we get into November and into December, but the Scarlet Knights will be a step up for Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech vs. Rutgers: How to Watch & Preview
This game has an early tip and will begin at 6 p.m., and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra. Rutgers enters the game 4-0 with double-digit wins over Manhatten, Cornell, Iona, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. They are led by Destiny Adams who is averaging double-double early in the campaign with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Chyna Cornwell is also averaging a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jojo Lacey and Kiyomi McMiller each are averaging 10 points a night.
Carleigh Wenzel leads the Hokies averaging 16 points a game through four games and has done a nice job getting to the basket as well as shooting the ball from the field. Rose Micheaux is averaging 14 points a game and is becoming an inside presence on both ends of the floor for Duffy. Matilda Ekh and Carys Baker are each averaging 10 points a night, while Samyha Suffren and Kayl Petersen each are averaging seven points. That is an example of what Virginia Tech needs each night to be successful, balanced scoring.
This will be Rutgers’ first game away from Jersey Mike’s Arena in 2024-25 as their first four games have been in Piscataway, but now they head to Blacksburg for a huge early-season test for both squads.
