There is always a lot on the line when Virginia Tech and Virginia meet in any sport, but on Saturday night at Lane Stadium, there are two seasons on the line. In the annual Thanksgiving Weekend clash on the football field between the Hokies and Cavaliers with both teams need a win to become bowl-eligible.
At stake is a second straight bowl game under third-year head coach Brent Pry at Virginia Tech, while Virginia will be looking for a giant step under Tony Elliott with a bowl game. It's stunning that Tech is in the spot they are in and coming off a three-point loss at Duke on Saturday night. Virginia was beaten at home on Saturday against SMU.

Last Monday, the ACC announced that this game will be the final ACC regular season game to kick off on the 2024 schedule this season at 8 p.m. It will be broadcast on the ACC Network, streamed on the ESPN app, and at ESPN.com. The game is also available on FuboTV.
It's going to be a long week for both Pry and Elliott in terms of getting ready for the game. Both teams are banged up following this past weekend's action and this is the second year that Virginia Tech comes into the game at 5-6 needing a win for bowl eligibility. They went into Charlottesville last November and won, 55-17, before going to the Military Bowl and beating Tulane.
Virginia Tech has opened as just over a touchdown favorite against Virginia at home and the line will have some movement before kick off, but which it goes will depend on injuries and who will and won't play. Don't expect either Pry or Elliott to release too much injury leading into the contest with all that is at stake for both teams.
