Playing with little to no room for error, the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team begins the final week of the regular season with the first of two ACC road games on Thursday night in Chestnut Hill.

After a split last week at home against Stanford and California, the Hokies have a lot to play for the final two games against Boston College and Clemson. Not only are they vital wins in terms of the NCAA Tournament résumé, but also in terms of avoiding having to play on Day 1 of the ACC Tournament next week. The Hokies’ women are hoping not to have a repeat performance that Mike Young and the men had last week in Massachusetts when they scored just 36 points, that’s correct, 36 points over 40 minutes.

Boston College has a lot to play for as they are trying to not miss the ACC Tournament next week in Greensboro as the bottom three teams in the standings will have their season end on Sunday. BC has five wins, one more than Miami, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh. Three of those four teams will make the ACC Tournament and play on Day 1.

Boston College is a team that was hanging around Charlie Creme’s NCAA Tournament bracketology as part of the group of teams that were on the outside looking in, but they dropped nine of their last 11 to fall off the bubble.

Virginia Tech will face the same situation the Hokies men did last week, playing in front of a very small gathering of close friends and relatives in what is like a library atmosphere a lot of times. BC fans don’t support the men’s and women’s basketball teams like they do their No. 1-ranked hockey team.

The Hokies will need to find a way to get a win by making shots and playing good defense like they did a couple of weeks ago at Virginia. Establishing Rose Micheaux is a must early and often for Virginia Tech along with shooting the ball well from the outside, something they have done well on the road this season.
