After 12 days off for the Christmas break, the Virginia Tech women's basketball will begin 2025 at the friendly confines of Cassell Coliseum against Florida State. The Hokies come into the game looking for their first conference win of the season after dropping their opener last month at Duke.
The Seminoles come into the game at 11-2 and 1-0 in the ACC after beating SMU last month in their conference opener. This will be a difficult game for the Hokies as FSU is one the more offensive talented teams in the ACC and can put boards on the board at a quick rate.
How to Watch Florida State vs. Virginia Tech women's basketball
here is the information needed to watch the first game of 2025 for Megan Duffy and her team.
- Date: Thursday, Jan. 2
- Time: 6:00 p.m.
- Venue: Cassell Coliseum
- How to Watch: ACC Network, ESPN.com, or FuboTV
- Virginia Tech Record: 9-3 (0-1 ACC)
- Florida State Record: 11-2 (1-0 ACC)
For Virginia Tech to be successful in this game, they will have to turn up the defense against the Seminoles. There have been times this season where they have stepped up on the defensive end and there is no better example than the fourth quarter at Georgia in December in the ACC/SEC Challenge.
Offensively, the Hokies will have to try to establish Rose Micheaux on the inside, while handling the FSU pressure, and shooting the ball well from the outside is also a must. Mitalda Ekh and Carleigh Wenzel are two players who can score in bunches. Virginia Tech's bench will also play a big role, and it has been a factor early in the season. The latest ESPN Bracketology by Charlie Creme has the Hokies as the first team out in the NCAA Tournament, so this would be a win that would go a long way to being a big win in terms of postseason play.
