Hokies Need to do One Thing: BEAT UVA!
By Roy Hatfield
Well, Virginia Tech sports fans, here we are again. Another weekend where Virginia Tech’s bowl future is heavily in doubt. This week, the Virginia Tech Hokies host that team from up north. Man, I hate the Wahoos. Those tie-wearing, cheese-eating, jazz-listening snobs better get ready for an old-fashioned as$ whipping.
I will say that the Cavaliers were dealt an incredibly bad off-the-field situation that I wouldn’t wish on anybody. Tony Elliott has done a remarkable job of turning the ‘Hoos into a pretty respectable football team.
I liked coach Brent Pry’s presser this week. He made sure to mention that the whole building knows what this game means for the team. Thank god we have a coach who remembers when this rivalry was somewhat competitive. In all the years I covered Virginia Tech, my favorite memory was chatting up Cody Grimm as he described drinking Busch Latte out of the Commonwealth Cup.
I’m not sure Virginia Tech deserves an insane Lane Stadium. I’m not sure Virginia Tech fans have the endurance to do another national television pantsing. For the love of God, please beat U.V.A.. this weekend.
I know that I have written about Virginia Tech going to a bowl game in Florida, and that’s for selfish reasons. The bowl game appearance would help the team, and I would love the ability to watch this team again in person. The bowl game would be nice, but I hate the Cavaliers.
Point blank, we have to be the state champions before we can do anything else. This is a program-defining moment, and if we fail here, there is absolutely no momentum heading into 2025. The portal is calling, and it's not like we stacked some hard-core recruiting classes. This is our Super Bowl.
