Following a seven-point loss at North Carolina on Saturday night, the Virginia Tech men's basketball team will look to rebound on Tuesday night in its final regular-season home game of the 2025-26 season. Record-wise, this should be a win for the Hokies, but given the history, nothing will be easy for Virginia Tech.

The Hokies will host a struggling Boston College team in Blacksburg, but head coach Mike Young has struggled during his tenure against the Eagles, winning just one game. That is not good. This year's BC team is not very good and likely going to miss the ACC Tournament again. There is also a good chance that head coach Earl Grant is coaching for his job and might be let go following the season this upcoming weekend. On Sunday night, just hours after the Eagles women's season ended, they fired their head coach. Now, there's a chance that Grant could be let go as well.

Virginia Tech men's basketball hosts BC in pivotal ACC matchup

Virginia Tech's NCAA Tournament chances, as small as they may be at this point in the season, hinge on beating BC and an upset of Virginia on the road on Saturday in the second Commonwealth Clash matchup. There is no other way to put it. Even winning both games might not be enough to get the Hokies on the right side of the bubble for the 68-team field later this month.

This is also a big game in terms of seeding for the ACC Tournament next week. It is looking more and more like Virginia Tech will end up playing on the first day of the tournament in Charlotte. If that is the case, then the odds are going to be stacked against them to make a run.

Boston College picked up its third ACC win last week, beating Wake Forest at home, before getting blown out by Miami in South Florida. This is a team that again isn't very good, and a loss here would be icing on the ACC cake for the Hokies, who have already gutted through a number of difficult losses since beating Virginia at home on New Year's Eve.
