When it comes to college football, there are a number of things that could use a change or be corrected. Strides are being made with an expanded College Football Playoff that now has the power conferences at odds with each other.

One area that needs to be changed and adjustments made it’s with the transfer portal. Currently, there are two portals, one in the winter and one in the spring. It’s actually nuts that there are two portal windows for football. A lot of coaches would like some changes, and Georgia’s Kirby Smart speaks for a lot of them with his latest comments.

Georgia’s Kirby Smart tells the hard-honest truth about the transfer portal

Almost everyone associated with college football would agree that there needs to be a change for the good of the game, with the portal and Smart putting it out there.

“The biggest decision that has to be made in college football right now is when is the transfer portal and is there one or two,’’ said Smart.

He’s 100% correct. The first portal window is right after the regular season and sucks out the excitement for bowl games when players opt out to go into the portal. I’m not sure who thought that a portal in that time frame was a smart decision. Unless you’re in the College Football Playoff, good luck recognizing some of the players suiting up for bowl games.

Then there is the spring portal in April, right after most spring practices end, and while the movement isn’t anywhere close to the winter one, it’s still another window coaches have to deal with. For the good of the game, there should be one portal window, and that should open up right after the National Championship Game in January and last as long as anyone wants.

College basketball’s portal window is another one that needs to be tinkered with, but that’s a different discussion for a different day. Until then, Kirby Smart is right and speaks for most college football coaches in wanting to get clear clarification when it comes to the transfer portal window for college football.
