After a 46-26 loss to Old Dominion on Saturday night at Lane Stadium, Virginia Tech decided on Sunday to fire head football coach Brent Pry. First-year offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery will assume the interim coaching duties the rest of the season, beginning Saturday afternoon when Wofford visits Blacksburg for the last non-conference game of the season.
Virginia Tech has already lost some recruits since Pry's firing and one player to the portal, so just how the rest of the season goes with more players eligible to redshirt and enter the Transfer Portal like Dante Lovett, things could get ugly.
If there was ever a time for the Hokies to rally together and pick up a win, it's this weekend against a Terriers team that is also struggling. Montgomery said earlier this week that he'll still handle the play-calling duties as the interim head coach, something he did when he was the head coach at Tulsa. It will, without a doubt, be interesting to see how Virginia Tech comes out and responds after playing two duds in their last two games under Pry after a decent showing in the opener against South Carolina in Atlanta.
