Four-star Virginia Tech priority recruit pushes back commitment date

The Hokies will have to wait a couple more weeks before a decision from Elijah Golden.

Recruiting has been a struggle this cycle for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry, who currently only has nine commitments in the Class of 2026. That has them at the bottom of the ACC, which isn't a good sign.

The Hokies have picked up some key commitments in the class with four-star wide receiver Carnell Warren and quarterback Peyton Falzone, but both have de-committed and found homes in other programs, Warren at North Carolina, and Falzone has committed to his second program since de-committing from Tech, now at Auburn. Again, if I'm a Tigers fan, I would wait until the ink dries over the winter before getting too excited about him.

Virginia Tech has been in the mix for some recruits, but commitments have been going the other way, including some who picked Virginia over the Hokies. One four-star recruit has Virginia Tech in his Final 4 schools, and he was set to commit next week, but has since pushed his commitment back a couple of weeks.

Virginia Tech football four-star target in the Class of 2026 pushes commitment date back

One of the highly sought-after players in the Class of 2026 who has yet to commit is four-star defensive lineman Elijah Golden and the Cardinal Mooney rising senior was scheduled to commit on July 26, but has pushed it back to Aug. 8 at 3:30 p.m., according to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals. Golden explained his decision, and it opens the door for the Hokies to really be in the mix with Alabama, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma, he confirmed.

“I wanted to take some more time and think on this decision,” Golden said. “This is very important for me.”

Up against three powerhouse programs, you have to think that the Hokies are still a possibility for Golden, who mentioned that they have been after him since his freshman year. He is a Virginia native, and this would be a tremendous win for Pry if Golden were to commit to them.
