Former Virginia Tech Icon Michael Vick Shows of Admiration For Coach Beamer

Thursday night’s in Blacksburg, Va., there is nothing like a game at Lane Stadium. In what is always a game that is highlighted and circled on everyone's calendar when the Virginia Tech football schedule is released, there is something special about Thursday night football and the Hokies.
That was the case this past Thursday night when the Hokies were coming off a bye hosting Boston College. The two schools have a history on Thursday night’s with each team winning three games. Virginia Tech took a 4-3 series lead with a 42-21 thumping of the Eagles. There were many former Hokies’ greats in attendance from players to coach Frank Beamer.
One of those players in attendance was Virginia Tech legend quarterback Michael Vick. During the first-half broadcast, he joined the ESPN broadcast from the sideline and spoke about what the school, program, and Coach Beamer mean to him as they celebrated 30 years of Thursday night football at Virginia Tech.
“It’s pretty special man,’’ Vick said. “Our fanbase, team and administration take pride in these moments and it shows. It’s always special to come here and see a lot of familiar faces, you see a lot of people you spent a lot of time with and people you care about you. Coach (Beamer) was a big part of my development as a man and figuring out how to navigate this lifestyle as a quarterback and I love him and love his family.’’
Vick was asked about his favorite memory at Virginia Tech wearing the Hokies uniform and his response might surprise you.
“My favorite moment was the first time I took the field and every time I step on this field, it brings back so many memories.’’
Considering all his success on that field and in his career wearing the Virginia Tech uniform, it was a surprising answer, but one thing is for sure, Vick has never forgotten who gave him a chance and believed in him and never will.
