This isn't surprising.

After last season, the Virginia Tech men's basketball team didn't lose as many players to the Transfer Portal as they did the previous season, with a mass exodus. Head coach Mike Young did lose a couple of players, one of them being guard Jaydon Young.

After hitting the portal, the Greensboro, North Carolina native ended up committing to North Carolina and head coach Hubert Davis. However, after just one season in Chapel Hill, Young is reportedly hitting the Transfer Portal again.

Young played in 31 games this past season for UNC, averaging 7.2 minutes a game and 1.8 points. He dropped a season-high 12 points in 19 minutes in an 87-84 Tar Heels' ACC win over Wake Forest in January. In the NCAA Tournament, he played five minutes against VCU, which turned out to be a program-altering loss.

After blowing a 19-point lead to the Rams in the first round last month and losing in overtime, 82-78, the school moved on from Davis and has yet to hire a new coach. That is big with the portal opening on Tuesday. Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan is a leading candidate for the job.

Young played two seasons in Blacksburg, with his best season being in 2024-25. He played in 32 games, started 10, and averaged just over 22 minutes a game and 8.1 points a night. In his freshman season, Young played in 26 games, averaging 8.5 minutes a game and just under two points.

He played really well down the stretch for the Hokies last year. He had 27 points in a win at Miami and then poured in 26 more in an overtime win over Syracuse. In Virginia Tech's overtime loss to Cal in the ACC Tournament, he had 12 points and three rebounds.
