When the Virginia Tech baseball team had its season last May in 2024 at the ACC Tournament, you knew that it was the end of the line for third baseman Carson DeMartini with the Hokies. He was headed for bigger and brighter days ahead in the professional ranks.

A little over a month later, DeMartini was selected in the fourth round, 130th overall, by the Philadelphia Phillies and finished out the season in Clearwater. He slowly broke onto the scene as a professional, even though it was the Florida State League. This past February was DeMartini’s first professional training camp with Philadelphia, and when camp broke, he was assigned to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, the Phillies' High-A Affiliate.

So far in 2025 for the BlueClaws, DeMartini has been tearing the cover off the ball to the tune of a .284 batting average with eight home runs and 30 RBI. He blasted two home runs on Sunday for Jersey Shore with three RBI in a 12-10 win at Bowling Green.

Carson DeMartini promoted to Double-A

Following the game, the Phillies have promoted DeMartini to the Double-A Reading Fightin Phills, and he is the 15th-ranked prospect in Philadelphia’s system. Before the season started, he was tabbed as an underrated prospect who was ready for a breakout season, something he is starting to do. He has been tabbed by many scouts as an under-the-radar player who, when he gets hold of a pitch, can drive it a long way.

During his three years in Blacksburg, DeMartini hit .311 in 165 career games with 46 home runs, and he drove in 164. He collected at least 50 RBI in all three seasons at Virginia Tech and was a staple in the middle of John Szefc’s lineup.
