As Winter Storm Fern makes her way across the country and causes nightmares for everyone in her path, the ACC did some last-second scheduling changes with its men's and women's schedule this weekend. One of the games affected was the Virginia Tech women's.

They had their road game at Wake Forest moved up a day from Sunday to Saturday to ensure that everyone was going to be hunkered down during the storm. That was going to create a difficult turnaround for Megan Duffy's team. Less than 48 hours after a thrilling comeback win at home over Clemson, the Hokies had to play a Demon Deacons team that was coming off a bye on Thursday night.

Through the first 20 minutes, it looked like it was going to be a long night for the Hokies, but the second half was a different story. Virginia Tech outscored Wake Forest, 51-24, in what was a dominating final 20 minutes to improve to 16-5 overall and 6-3 in the ACC.

It would have been easy to see the Hokies not have the legs in the second half and let the 12-9 Demon Deacons hang around. Instead, it was the total opposite. After going 3-for-9 from behind the 3-point line in the first half, Virginia Tech was 10-for-14 in the second half for a season-high 13 in the game.

Carleigh Wenzel was 5-for-8 from behind the arc, and Carys Baker was 4-for-7. Leile Wells and Sophie Swanson each knocked down two. Baker finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, just one shy of another double-double this season. Wenzel had 19 points and six assists, Wells had 12 points, and Kilah Freelon had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Virginia Tech shot 55% from behind the 3-point line and 44% (31-for-71) from the field. They will have some time off and return home to host Pittsburgh on Thursday night, looking for a sixth straight win.
