We are in the first year of the new-look ACC after the additions of Stanford, SMU, and California. Last week, the conference agreed to a new TV deal, which will likely keep the conference together longer than some might have thought.
Realignment will always be a topic, and who knows if we’ll ever get the right fit for schools, but it feels like Virginia Tech is stuck in the ACC for the foreseeable future as long as it stays together. I hope I’m wrong, but you get that feeling. One college football analyst released his realignment for conferences, and he has a perfect spot of where the Hokies would end up in realignment.
Josh Pate nails the perfect Virginia Tech realignment spot
Josh Pate listed his realignment on his X account, and he has Virginia Tech landing in the Big East. Joining them would be Boston College, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia, Connecticut, and Central Florida.
Boy, would this bring back some memories? Anyway, he has BC, Pitt, Louisville, and Syracuse also, moving over from the ACC and West Virginia would be a very interesting choice and create a nice little rivalry for the Hokies.
In terms of football, this would work out well in terms of travel for Virginia Tech. Could it be tweaked a little? Maybe, but this is not a worst-case scenario for Virginia Tech, and it’s something that makes sense.
Aside from South Florida and maybe UConn, the rest of the schools make sense to join the Hokies in a new-look Big East. UConn, however, is a Big East brand in basketball, and they did have a bowl win over North Carolina this season in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl in Boston in December.
Realignment is always going to be around, but Pate nails it with this for Virginia Tech, which would be a good destination. For the record, I never see this happening, but ah yes, the Big East, many memories.
