The Virginia Tech football team is halfway through camp in preparation for the 2025 season. The Hokies are looking to rebound from a frustrating 6-7 season in which they fell well short of expectations.
There are a lot of changes made over the offseason, from the coaching staff to players leaving via the Transfer Portal and players coming in. There is a lot that needs to get done in the rest of camp ahead of a very difficult opener on Aug. 31 against South Carolina.
When you have a slot of roster turnover and coaching staff turnover, it feels like you don't have the time needed to get everything implemented ahead of the season. A difficult opener against a Top 15 team doesn't help the cause either. Factor in injuries, then things get very difficult.
Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry is full-steam ahead despite injuries
Injuries are starting to pop up for the Hokies, and really, who isn't dealing with injuries at this point in camp? It's football, it's the dog days of the summer, and injuries are just part of what teams are dealing with. However, despite the injuries, it isn't slowing down what Pry and Virginia Tech are going to do on a daily basis, and dealing with bumps and bruises.
"Yeah, there is,'' said Pry. "I don't know how there's not. I don't know why, if you're competing hard and playing physical, it is going to happen, and we cannot pull back; we have to be the more physical team."
Two of Virginia Tech's transfer running backs, Terion Stewart and Bryadon Bennett, were banged up on Wednesday, but it doesn't appear to be anything serious. Wide receiver Chanz Wiggins is also banged up, while offensive lineman Brody Meadows was seen in a walking boot. Pry hopes to have him back at the next minicamp shortly.
One thing to take away from Pry's quote is that the Hokies need to be the more physical team, something they were not always last season. This team is less talented on paper than last year, but this year, they need to be the more physical team every week. This is the correct decision and avenue to take for Pry with this team going into a pivotal 2025 campaign.
