Taking a 10-point lead into halftime on Saturday night at Lane Stadium in the home opener for the Virginia Tech football team, head coach Brent Pry knew his team's lead could have been bigger.

Up 20-10, the Hokies reached the red zone in four of their first five drives, but settled for two field goals and just two touchdowns. Defensively, despite allowing just 10 points, they struggled to stop the Commodores except for two turnovers.

You just had the feeling that with Vanderbilt and quarterback Diego Pavia getting the ball to open the second half that adjustments would be made, and it would be a tighter second half. Well, it didn't go that way, and the Commodores dominated to the tune of outscoring the Hokies, 34-0, in what was just a brutal 30 minutes of football from Virginia Tech. It ended up not mattering that they settled for field goals instead of touchdowns in the first half of what ended up being a 44-20 loss. After the game, Pry was asked if he was feeling any pressure about his job security.

The fanbase is beyond frustrated, and during his press conference following the game, Tim Thomas of The Tech Lunch Pail asked the fourth-year head coach about feeling pressure about his job after another loss.

"I'm not. I tell the players to ignore the noise,'' Pry said. "I learned that a long time ago. The expectations here are to win. I'm not happy with where we are right now. Not from a wins standpoint. But I like this team. We'll regroup, and there's still a lot of season left. I'm still excited about what we can do."

It was a question that needed to be asked, and Thomas did it. As for the answer, well, I'm not sure what else he was going to say, but nobody can deny that the seat is very hot now. How can it not be? I have written it before, and I'll stick by it. He's not getting fired this week, but there is a very interesting and rather tough non-conference game coming up next weekend at home against Old Dominion. Another loss to the Monarchs, then things get interesting.
