Four games are remaining in the 2024-25 regular season for ACC men’s basketball teams. This season with the three new additions of Stanford, SMU, and California to the conference, the ACC Tournament is going to have a new look to it. The bottom three teams in the standings when all games are completed on March 8 will not be heading to Charlotte for the tourney.
Currently, when this article is being written, North Carolina State, Boston College, and Miami are the bottom three teams in the standings. Last week, BC picked up wins over Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech at home, while NC State beat Wake Forest. Both teams now have four wins and are on the heels of a handful of five-win teams in ACC play to close the gap and make things interesting. Losses to Florida State and Virginia Tech all but eliminated Miami from making a late-season run to join 14 other teams for the conference tournament.
Where does Virginia Tech sit in the ACC men’s basketball standings?
Let’s be honest, after the way Virginia Tech struggled through the non-conference schedule, who thought that they would be in a position with four games remaining to clinch a berth in the ACC Tournament? They looked like a team that would struggle to win even two or three games, but thanks to the conference being down, they have more than doubled those numbers.
Team | ACC Record | Overall Record |
---|---|---|
Duke | 15-1 | 24-3 |
Clemson | 14-2 | 22-5 |
Louisville | 14-2 | 21-6 |
SMU | 11-5 | 20-7 |
Wake Forest | 11-5 | 19-8 |
North Carolina | 11-6 | 18-11 |
Stanford | 9-7 | 17-10 |
Pittsburgh | 7-9 | 16-11 |
Virginia Tech | 7-9 | 12-15 |
Georgia Tech | 7-9 | 13-14 |
Florida State | 7-10 | 16-12 |
Virginia | 6-10 | 13-14 |
Notre Dame | 6-10 | 12-15 |
California | 5-11 | 12-15 |
Syracuse | 5-11 | 11-16 |
NC State | 4-12 | 11-16 |
Boston College | 4-12 | 12-15 |
Miami | 2-14 | 6-21 |
So where does Virginia Tech fall in terms of the ACC Tournament and seeding currently? They would be seeded in the middle of the pack. With four games remaining, this is going to change and change daily as the Hokies, if they can string some wins together and get results in their favor in other games, could climb into the No. 9 seed and earn a bye on Day 1 of the tourney.
This week’s schedule has some interesting matchups and we’ll check back next week after the dust settles on a week’s worth of games where the Hokies stand in terms of getting to the ACC Tournament.
