ACC Men's Basketball Preseason Power Rankings: Where is Virginia Tech & Who Begins No. 1?
By Scott Roche
It's hard to believe, but a new college basketball season is here. The action gets underway on Monday and the next five months will be chaos as teams battle to get into the NCAA Tournament for a chance to cut the nets down in early April.
Last season was a wild season, to say the least, in the ACC. Things got even more crazy following the season when the transfer portal window opened and there was a ton of movement throughout the conference. Just about every team was effected in one way or another.
As we look ahead to the 2024-25 season, the same teams that are usually near the top of the conference are expected to be there against this season. Whether or not that happens it remains to be seen. Remember North Carolina State last March? They made an improbable run to win the ACC Tournament to get into the NCAA Tournament. Their run didn't stop there as they made an incredible run to the Final Four before falling to Purdue in a National Semifinal.
As we get ready to tip off a new season, here are the preseason ACC Men's Basketball Power Rankings for 2024-25.
ACC Men's Basketball Preseason Power Rankings
This season, California, Stanford, and SMU join the ACC expanding it to 18 teams for basketball. Duke is the No. 1 team to begin the season with freshman Cooper Flagg joining the Blue Devils and North Carolina is not too far behind their biggest rivals.
Wake Forest returns some good talent and Notre Dame is expected to make a big jump under Micah Shrewsberry. As far as Virginia Tech goes, there are a lot more questions than answers entering the season after dismissing Hysier Miller from the team. Regardless, the college basketball season is here, and let the madness begin.
