Now that non-conference schedules are done with (for the most part), it's time for things to heat up in conference play for men's basketball programs in the ACC. Some teams will play a non-conference game, but conference play begins in earnest this week.
The results through the non-conference games have been better for the ACC than in recent years, with every team over .500. Just how good the conference is this year remains to be seen, and there should be a lot of answers coming up once ACC play cranks up. Just how good teams are will be answered quickly. Cal is 12-1, and Stanford is 10-2, while the third newest member, SMU, is also 10-2. Cal and Stanford will get a good early conference test with Louisville and Notre Dame beginning conference play out west this week.
There are going to be some other good matchups this week with Virginia Tech hosting Virginia in the first of two Commonwealth Clashes on Wednesday, then the Cavaliers will travel to Raleigh to play North Carolina State on Saturday morning.
