ACC Basketball Power Rankings: Virginia Tech movement after splitting two games

The first week of ACC play is in the book.

If the first week of conference play is any indication, we are going to be in for an exciting next couple of months of ACC play. The first week gave us upsets, memorable games, and proved just how hard it is to win on the road.

With one week down, let's fire up the latest ACC men's basketball power rankings.

ACC Men's Basketball Power Rankings: January 5

18. Boston College (7-7, 0-1 ACC)
Last Week: 18

How much longer does Earl Grant have in Chestnut Hill? The Eagles opened ACC play with a loss at Georgia Tech.

17. Pittsburgh (7-8, 0-2 ACC)
Last Week: 17

A rough start to ACC play for the Panthers with losses to Miami and Clemson. Jeff Chapel might be in some trouble as well this year.

16. Florida State (7-8, 0-2 ACC)
Last Week: 16

The post Leonard Hamilton era at FSU is off to a rough start with back-to-back ACC losses to North Carolina and Duke.

15. Georgia Tech (10-5, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 15

The Yellow Jackets put up a good fight in losing by six points at Duke before beating Boston College to even their ACC record.

14. Syracuse (9-5, 0-1 ACC)
Last Week: 10

It was a disappointing start to ACC play for the Orange, losing at home to Clemson by three points. They have a favorable schedule coming up that they must take advantage of.

13. Wake Forest (10-5, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 13

After losing to NC State on the road, the Demon Deacons beat Virginia Tech by three points on Saturday. They face a tough week with a home game against Miami before a trip to North Carolina.

12. Notre Dame (10-5, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 14

The Irish opened the conference slate with a split in California, beating Stanford and losing late on a controversial ending at Cal.

11. California (13-2, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 12

The Bears lost to Louisville at home before stealing a win over Notre Dame with the help of the officials.

10. Stanford (12-3, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 11

The Cardinal lost an abysmal opener to Notre Dame, but bounced back with an upset of Louisville before coming east to play Virginia and Virginia Tech this week.

9. North Carolina State (10-5, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 6

After beating Wake Forest, the Wolfpack were blown out at home by Virginia on Saturday. They have two winnable games this week at Boston College and Florida State.

8. Virginia Tech (12-3, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 9

The shorthanded Hokies won a triple overtime thriller over Virginia before falling by three on the road at Wake Forest.

7. Virginia (12-2, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 4

Ryan Odom has put together a very good roster in his first season in Charlottesville. They responded nicely to their loss in Blacksburg by burying NC State on the road. They get Cal and Stanford at home this week.

6. Clemson (12-3, 2-0 ACC)
Last Week: 8

The Tigers slide up after road wins at Syracuse and Pitt. They host SMU this week in what will be an early-season test.

5. Miami (12-2, 21-0 ACC)
Last Week: 7

The Hurricanes opened ACC play with a win over Pittsburgh. They head to Wake Forest this week in an early ACC test.

4. North Carolina (13-2, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 3

The Tar Heels lost by 14 points at SMU after opening ACC play with a win over Florida State, but they will be just fine in 2025-26.

3. SMU (12-2, 1-0 ACC)
Last Week: 5

What a start for the Mustangs in ACC play, beating UNC at home. They get a tough road test this week, at Clemson and at Duke.

2. Louisville (11-3, 1-1 ACC)
Last Week: 2

The Cardinals got a road split to open ACC play against Stanford and Cal. Like UNC, they will be fine this year.

1. Duke (13-1, 2-0 ACC)
Last Week: 1

The Blue Devils eeked out wins over Georgia Tech and FSU to open conference play. They get a huge road test this week at Louisville.
