Another week down, and we are seven more days closer to the Virginia Tech football team beginning the 2025 season against South Carolina in Atlanta. This past week, the Hokies took part in the 2025 ACC Kickoff in Charlotte with Brent Pry and four players making themselves available to the media.

As we close out the final full weekend in July, the Hokies begin camp shortly and will be looking to put in a lot of work into what they hope will be a bounce-back season after two straight seasons with a 6-6 record. South Carolina isn't going to be easy, and Pry knows that, speaking at the ACC Kickoff last week.

"It's challenging. South Carolina is a hell of a football team,'' said Pry. "They've recruited well. They've got a ton of momentum. They've got a dynamic edge guy. They've got an ultra talented quarterback (LaNorris Sellers). We've got our hands full.

But we're up for the challenge, and we're working every day to be the best team that we can be to go down there and play a good brand of football."

Yes, the Hokies do have their hands full, but with it being just five Sundays away, let's look a little more in-depth at the No. 5 this week for Virginia Tech in 2025.

Virginia Tech five Sundays away from playing South Carolina

The number five is one that could be used in a phrase multiple times this season with the Hokies. A lot of people have them winning five games, which would make for really interesting decisions surrounding the program. Five is also the same number of wins they have had the last two seasons going into their final regular season game against Virginia, needing wins to become bowl-eligible.

Five is also a number to watch this season under center for the Hokies. Kyron Drones is back and looking for a big season in Blacksburg, but if he gets hurt, backup Pop Watson would be called upon likely to replace him, wearing his new No. 5. That isn't a given, however, as Oklahoma State transfer Garrett Rangel will have a say in camp as to who is QB2 for Pry.

Regardless, we are just 34 more sleeps away from the Hokies beginning the season, and it can't get here quickly enough.
