2 ACC teams that will disappoint in 2025
1. Boston College: 5.5
Bill O'Brien is back for Year 2 in Chestnut Hill, and the vibes are high surrounding the Eagles, but one thing BC fans need to realize, it's Boston College, not Alabama or Georgia. Going into every season, BC fans hold the Eagles to high standards, usually ones they can't meet. This will be another season where that comes true.
O'Brien named Alabama transfer Dylan Lonergan BC's starting QB, and the Eagles return some talent on both sides, but one look at their schedule and 5.5 wins seems like a reach for a program stuck in the middle of mediocrity. They have a non-conference game at Michigan State, then a week later, they open ACC play at Stanford, a game which they should win, but travel is difficult. Home games against Notre Dame, Clemson, SMU, Georgia Tech, along with road games at Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Louisville, are very difficult games. Under five wins is a rather safe bet for the Eagles.
2. Virginia: 6.5
Like Pry, this is a huge season for Tony Elliott in Charlottesville, and the 6.5 win over/under total sets him up for success. Factor in a schedule that is not difficult at all; you have to remember, Virginia is still Virginia.
Last season, they dropped the Commonwealth Clash in Blacksburg, missing out on a bowl game at 5-7, and like Virginia Tech, they have some roster changes. However, until they prove otherwise, what makes you think this is going to be a season any different than in years past? It wouldn't be surprising to see Virginia Tech again at 5-6 this year, with a win needed to extend their season. If that's the case. The Cavaliers will have to do something they haven't done much of: beat their rivals. This could be a game where Elliott isn't even on the sideline if they indeed are 5-6 entering that game. Under six wins is in the cards for Virginia this year, and it wouldn't be surprising.
