Before the Virginia Tech football team kicked off the 2023 season against Old Dominion at Lane Stadium in September, I wrote an article with three bold predictions for this season. With the regular season over and the Military Bowl game against Tulane two weeks away, let’s take a look back at the predictions and see how I fared.

No. 1: Virginia Tech wins seven games

Frankly, this could have been a hit and maybe even gone over by a game had the Hokies not struggled in their three non-conference games. A home loss to Purdue in Week 2 could have easily been a win and I had Virginia Tech penciled in for a win against Rutgers, but that didn’t happen.

When they started the season 1-3, this looked very unlikely, however, I have to give credit where credit is due. Head coach Brent Pry, offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen, and defensive coordinator Chris Marve did a nice job of turning things around and winning five ACC games. The coaching staff as a whole did a great job over the final two weeks and are rewarded with extra practice and one more game in a valuable month of December as they look ahead to 2024.
