In this edition of Virginia Tech News, a second Virginia Tech running back enters the transfer portal and this weekend the Hokies are planning for some potential recruits to visit Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech running back Chance Black enters the transfer portal

First Virginia Tech running back Bryce Duke entered the transfer portal, now Chance Black is also putting his name in the mix and looking for a new home in 2024, he announced on X.

This season, like Duke, Black saw his time and role diminish significantly behind Bhayshul Tuten, Malachi Thomas, and the running of quarterback Kyron Drones. He had just six carries, all in mop-up duty for just 22 yards. In 2022, he had 42 carries for 119 yards and three receptions for 23 yards.

He joins Duke, cornerback Derrick Canteen, tight end Dae’Quan Wright, offensive lineman Johnny Dickson and wide receiver Da’Wain Lofton.

Derrick Canteen receives a second offer in the transfer portal

One day after receiving an offer from the University of Cincinnati, Canteen got a second offer, this time from Oregon State. When he announced that he was entering the transfer portal, he said that he’s remaining with Virginia Tech through the Military Bowl on Dec. 27 against Tulane.

Virginia Tech to host recruits this weekend

Head coach Brent Pry and his staff will be hosting several recruits this weekend. They have offered several players in the transfer portal, but the common theme has been they are focusing on offensive linemen.

Tuten and defensive back Dorian Strong have yet to decide on 2024 on whether or not they’ll return to Blacksburg, according to Andy Bitter. Strong also spoke about making the third-team All-ACC this season.

I can’t say I don’t blame him. That stats back it up that he’s much more deserving than just third-team All-ACC honors. After the season he’s had, he certainly deserves to be on the first team.
