It has been a busy week in terms of the transfer portal for the Virginia Tech football team. Currently, five Hokies have entered the portal, while head coach Brent Pry and his staff have extended offers to multiple players.

It seems early in the process, Virginia Tech is putting its focus on the offensive line. That is not a surprise as they struggled and struggled mightily at times during the 2023 season in front of quarterback Kyron Drones and running back Bhayshul Tuten.

Thursday afternoon, it was reported that Tuten is thinking over his options for next season in terms of the Hokies.

Running back Bryce Duke has already entered the transfer portal for Virginia Tech and behind Tuten is Malachi Thomas, but it appears that Pry is leaving no stones unturned when it comes to adding more running backs in the backfield.

Virginia Tech offers Duke running back scholarship for 2024

Wednesday, Duke running back Jaquez Moore entered the transfer portal and it’s not surprising after Blue Devils coach Mike Elko left last month to take over at Texas A&M for Jimbo Fisher. Late Thursday afternoon, Moore announced on X that he received an offer from Virginia Tech. He also holds offers from Arkansas and Indiana.

In 2023, Moore rushed for 601 yards and six touchdowns for the Blue Devils and he averaged 5.9 yards a carry. Five of his six touchdowns came in ACC play against Clemson, Florida State, Wake Forest, Virginia, and Pittsburgh. He rushed for 110 yards against Florida State and 100 against Virginia.

The hope is that Tuten decides to return to Blacksburg with Drones and Thomas behind what very well could be a much better offensive line. If he doesn’t, a running back from the portal is going to be necessary and Moore is the type of player that can step right in and fill any void that is needed. If Tuten comes back, Moore and Tuten could be a very good duo. We’ll see how things unfold.
