As the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team did on Sunday, the women’s team returns to Cassell Coliseum home Wednesday night looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss in the ACC/SEC Challenge last week.

The men lost 74-57 at Auburn on Nov. 29, but they were able to get back into the win column against Louisville at home with a 75-68 ACC victory at Cassell Coliseum. Now it is the women’s opportunity to rebound from an 82-64 loss at LSU on Nov. 30 with a non-conference game against Long Island.

In reality, this should be a get-right game for coach Kenny Brooks and his team. Long Island enters 1-7 and Virginia Tech should go deep into their bench early in this one. The Hokies dropped to No. 15 in the recent Associated Press Top 25 after their loss to the Tigers. Look for Elizabeth Kitley, Georgia Amoore, and all of the other starters to get some second-half rest in this one.

Amoore spoke after the loss to LSU about how the Hokies did not respond to the physical play of the Tigers, who scored 69 points over the final three quarters.

After hosting Long Island, Virginia Tech will play at home on Sunday (Dec. 10) in another non-conference game against Radford, before traveling a week later on Dec. 17 to New Jersey to play Rutgers in another non-conference game. The Hokies need to take care of business in their remaining non-conference games because once ACC play begins, it’s going to be a nightly test no matter who their opponent is.
