Virginia Tech Football: Dorian Strong’s father issues challenge to fans
By Scott Roche
As the 2023 season went along, the Virginia Tech football team saw their defense get better and better. Once ACC play began, they shut down the offenses they should have shut down, but they did struggle against the top three teams in the conference, Florida State, Louisville, and North Carolina State. Honestly, most teams’ defenses that line up against those teams are going to struggle.
Virginia Tech’s defensive line played really well and finished tied for first in the ACC in sacks, but on the backend, no one had a better season than Dorian Strong. As the weeks went along, opposing teams started to throw away from him and he allowed just 83 yards receiving all season long.
Boston College found out what happens when you throw at him in a game on Nov. 11 in Chesnut Hill, Mass. Strong picked off Eagles quarterback Thomas Castellanos on the game’s first play, then later in the quarter, he again intercepted Castellanos, this time in a deep throw. Virginia Tech’s offense turned those picks into 10 points on their way to a 48-22 win at Alumni Stadium.
At Virginia Tech’s banquet on Sunday, Strong was named the 2023 Defensive MVP, and his coach, Derek Jones, said “he had as good a year as any corner I’ve coached in my 25 year career.’’
Strong is eligible to return to Blacksburg in 2024 and his father on X called out Hokies’ fans saying “if you guys want him, let him know.’’
Challenge accepted.
Virginia Tech fans give Dorian Stong love to return in 2024
Dorian Strong’s father, Donovan, sent out the challenge and Virginia Tech responded.
Those are just some of the responses, but the Hokies defense got a lift earlier this week when Antwaun Powell-Ryland announced he was coming back, as well as Josh Fuga to anchor the defensive line. Now Virginia Tech fans hope Strong comes back as well.
