Sunday, it was announced that the Virginia Tech football team will be playing in the Military Bowl in Annapolis, Maryland against the University of Tulane out of the AAC. The Green Wave lost their conference championship game on Saturday, 26-14, to SMU, who ironically will be entering the ACC next season with Standford and California.

Monday, the Green Wave lost their top receiver from this season who decided to enter the transfer portal that officially opened up Monday.

Tulane wide receiver Chris Brazzell enters the transfer portal

The Green Waves top wide receiver Chris Grazzell entered the transfer portal Monday. The tall receiver had 711 yards receiving this season on 44 receptions and five touchdowns. This is a big loss for Tulane ahead of their bowl game, but he’s not the only good receiver that they have and Hokies defense will be tested all game long on Dec. 27.

That is not the only loss as their coach, Willy Fritz left to go to Houston to take over for Dana Holgorsen after the Cougars struggled in their first season in the Big 12. Tulane offensive coordinator Slade Nagle will coach them in the Military Bowl against Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry spoke Sunday night before it was announced Chris Brazzell was entering the transfer portal and the Hokies head coach was impressed with what little he has seen of the Green Wave.

“I’ve watched them, I watched a little bit of their game yesterday. They have a talented quarterback. They’ve put a lot of points up. This year, in particular, they’re playing very good defense, I think they’re nationally ranked, but as far as their personnel, obviously, we’re deep diving into that now.”

Regardless of who suits up for Tulane and who is not there, Pry knows that this is going to be a tough matchup for Virginia Tech, but after taking a big step in their rebuild this season, he wouldn’t want it any other way.
