The 2023 regular season is over for college football and for Virginia Tech, the season is going to extend another month after a 55-17 win over Virginia last Saturday in Charlottesville to finish the season 6-6 and bowl eligible.

It was quite the turnaround for the Hokies after they started the season 1-3 and they were able to bounce back to go 5-3 in the ACC and finished tied for fourth with Georgia Tech. All season long Virginia Tech bounced all around the power rankings and it’s now time to take a look at where they finished in different rankings.

Where did Virginia Tech finish in the ESPN power rankings?

The Hokies rout of the Cavaliers bumped them up eight spots in ESPN’s rankings and they finished the regular season 46th. Earlier this year the Hokies were down in the 70’s and 80’s at times, but their strong finish to the season bumped them into the Top 50.

ACC teams that finished ahead of them were Florida State (No. 9), Clemson (No. 19), Louisville, (No. 22), Miami (No. 24), North Carolina (No. 26), Duke (No. 30), and North Carolina State (No. 35).

Where did Virginia Tech finish in the CBS Sports power rankings?

In CBS Sports power rankings for this season, Virginia Tech finished just outside of the Top 50, at No. 51 and that was up six spots following their win over Virginia.

ACC teams that finished ahead of them were Florida State (No. 4), Louisville (No. 14), North Carolina State (No. 23), Clemson (No. 25), North Carolina (No. 31), Miami (No. 40), Duke (No. 41), and Georgia Tech (No. 49).

It was a successful, but weird conference season for the Hokies, who lost to the three teams that finished ahead of them in the standings but blew out the five opponents in the games they won that finished below them in the conference standings. Regardless, getting to a bowl game and finishing in and just out of the Top 50 in the power rankings should be considered a good season.
