Following a 35-28 loss to North Carolina State Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium, the Virginia Tech football team sits at 5-6 with one game remaining. They need to win that game to get to bowl eligibility next weekend at Virginia.

The Cavaliers will enter the contest coming off a 30-27 victory at home Saturday against Duke to improve to 3-8. It was the second ACC win for Virginia who beat North Carolina earlier this season on the road and last week, they held a fourth-quarter lead on Louisville on the road before the Cardinals rallied for the win.

To say that next weekend’s game is a big one for the Hokies and the future of the program is an understatement. However, Cavaliers quarterback Anthony Colandrea certainly gave Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry and his team some easy motivation.

Anthony Colandrea gives a quote about facing the Hokies next weekend

Anthony Colandrea had a day at home on Saturday against the Blue Devils, throwing for three touchdowns on 21-for-30 passing and 278 yards. It was an impressive performance against a Duke defense that has been giving up some points the last couple of weeks.

Shortly after his performance, he had this to say about next weekend’s battle at home against Virginia Tech,

“After this game versus Tech, after we beat Virginia Tech, this program is going to shoot up and everyone in the country is going to know about us.”

First and foremost, it has been a rough go of things on the road this season for Virginia Tech. They are 1-4 away from the friendly confines of Blacksburg, getting their only win last weekend at Boston College. Going on the road to Charlottesville next weekend isn’t going to be easy to win game No. 6, but for a team that has struggled for motivation this season, they have been gifted the gift of all gifts by Colandrea.
