Virginia Tech Football: 3 dream candidates if Brent Pry isn’t the answer
By Scott Roche
Gus Malzahn – Central Florida
Things went sideways for Gus Malzahn near the end of his tenure at Auburn, but if there’s one thing that can’t be taken away it is the success he had there. In his first season of 2013, he had the Tigers in the BCS Championship Game, losing 34-31, to Florida State.
Each season at Auburn, he had them bowl-eligible and one of the better teams in the SEC. He is in his third season at Central Florida and their first season in the Big 12, they are one win from becoming bowl-eligible. UCF is coming off a 45-3 rout of then-No. 15 Oklahoma State last Saturday. They also came with two points of pulling off a road upset against Oklahoma in October.
An offensive mind, Malzahn’s offense is a wide-open offense that is built on putting points on the board and a lot of points on the board. He was able to recruit good players at Auburn and had them in the mix for the SEC Championship Game.
Malzahn is a coach who is never afraid of the big moment and getting an opportunity to bring Virginia Tech back to prominence is a challenge he would likely be up for.
