The Virginia Tech football team is 5-5 and needs a win in one of their two remaining games against North Carolina State at home this weekend or Thanksgiving Weekend at Virginia. After starting the season 1-3, it would be disappointing for head coach Brent Pry to have the Hokies fall one victory short of becoming bowl-eligible.

If they do, dropping three straight non-conference games to Purdue (at home), Rutgers, and Marshall would be tough to look back on. Since ACC play began, Virginia Tech has won four out of six games with impressive wins over Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Syracuse, and Boston College.

In the overall big picture, those wins don’t seem as impressive as they did when they occurred. Pittsburgh is on their third quarterback and their starter against the Hokies, Boston College transfer Phil Jurkovec, has been replaced after the game in Blacksburg and was taking practice snaps at tight end. Wake Forest is going down their QB depth chart and BC is struggling, coming off a very disappointing 24-16 loss at Pittsburgh Thursday night.

Brent Pry is in his second season in Blacksburg and through his first two seasons, the Hokies are 2-9 on the road with one Power 5 win over BC last weekend. Right now, it’s expected that he will return in 2024, but IF Virginia Tech drops its last two, that could change the situation. With the coach carousel ready spinning, here are five dream candidates should Virginia Tech look to go in another direction.
